Kuala Lumpur

Explore Malaysia's Dazzling Capital City

Kuala Lumpur, or popularly known as ‘KL’, is Malaysia’s capital city and one of Asia’s most dynamic cities. This bustling metropolis is a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures, and is home to a population of 3.4 million people.

One of the most charming features of this flourishing urban center is the juxtaposition of the old and new. Iconic high-rise buildings such as the Petronas Twin Towers stand alongside colonial buildings, creating a delightful contrast. Green-lung areas, upscale shopping malls, themed places of interest and heritage quarters give KL its unique character. Getting around this modern city is convenient with the comprehensive transportation system, KL Hop On Hop Off Coach tours, GO KL free bus service and KL City Hall’s tram service.

Petronas Twin Towers

Standing at 451.9m, the world-renowned Petronas Twin Towers is Kuala Lumpur City Centre’s centerpiece and one of the country’s most famous icons. The Skybridge on the 41st and 42nd floor doubles up as an excellent viewing platform of the city’s skyline. Featuring futuristic glass-and-steel exterior and a traditionally-inspired interior, the 88-storey building reflects Malaysia’s aspirations in moving forward while maintaining its national identity and traditional values.

Batu Caves

Batu Caves, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most frequented tourist attractions, is a limestone hill comprising three major caves and a number of smaller ones. Located approximately 11 kilometers to the north of Kuala Lumpur, this 100-year-old hillside temple features idols and statues erected inside the main caves and around it. Incorporated with interior limestone formations said to be around 400 million years old, the temple is considered an important religious landmark by Hindus.

Jalan Alor

If you are hungry for a Malaysian food feast, Jalan Alor could be a good start for beginners – a whole road designated for small hawker stalls offering the best of the best dishes in Malaysia.

Located near the ever-bustling area of Bukit Bintang, Jalan Alor is a veritable food heaven in the heart of Kuala Lumpur!

Bukit Bintang

Bukit Bintang has been likened to Piccadilly Circus in London and Times Square in New York City due to the sprawling shopping malls, massive billboards, as well as the lively and colorful milieu. Every evening, visitors can also catch quirky performances by buskers, mime artists, break dancers, and shufflers, which take place at the intersections of Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

When it comes to night life, Kuala Lumpur’s latest bars and clubs can found along Changkat Bukit Bintang. This boulevard is crammed with pubs that transform into lively watering holes and restaurants that turn into hip nightclubs after dark.

Pasar Seni (Central Market)

Situated within a restored art deco façade, Central Market is famed for its variety of authentic Malaysian souvenirs. Get handicrafts, songket and batik attire, paintings, hand-made items and more. There are also DIY workshops and caricature artists. Outside, Kasturi Walk offers an alfresco shopping.

Petaling Street (Chinatown)

Petaling Street or Chinatown is a lively stretch of shops, restaurants and hawker stalls. It is one of the best places to enjoy the outdoor shopping experience while browsing through an assortment of finds from watches, accessories, clothes, fresh fruits, flowers to crafts and souvenirs. The streets are defined by buildings, clan houses and temples which stand as testament to the city’s architectural heritage.

KL Forest Eco-park

This sanctuary has the distinction of being the oldest as well as the only permanent forest reserve in the heart of the city. Beginning at the slopes of KL Tower, the lowland dipterocarp forest stretches over 10.5 hectares and is home to a diversity of inhabitants. View the lush foliage from the 70-meter boardwalk or join a guided tour to take a closer look at the trees, bamboos, herbs and climbers.

Putrajaya

Putrajaya is Malaysia’s third and latest Federal Territory. Putrajaya takes over the administrative functions of the capital city Kuala Lumpur and is part of the Multimedia Super Corridor project of the Malaysian government.

Much organization and planning have gone into the development of Putrajaya as a modern city with the latest communication technologies and progressive infrastructure. The streets are elegantly designed with a European feel, along with well-paved roads while the government buildings are a blend of modern architecture with Islamic arts.
